Best Review - Top 6 poems by Debbie Dunn from A C – Set 18

F

or most of my life, I have written poetry. Most of my poetry does not rhyme. Since I am a person that does not like to be boxed-in or restricted, I much prefer the free-style free-verse style of writing poetry.

As I deal with some of the major and minor issues of my life, I often find that writing poetry is almost a form of therapy. It is also an ideal way to view some of the more interesting aspects of this world.

When I would find myself embroiled in some kind of conflict, either with myself, with others, or with some kind of situation, I would compose a series of one to six poems. By the end of the writing session, I would feel at peace about the whole situation. So writing poetry for me turned into a type of self-therapy.

Since I often found myself incapable of crying, this poetry became my way of venting those tense emotions. As a result, I called my first series of poetry my “Cry in the Wilderness” poetry series.

So, what about you? What do you do to deal with your negative emotions of stress or fear or worry or anger or rage? Are you the type who likes to journal about things that bother you? Do you, perhaps like me, enjoy dabbling with writing poetry to process the details of what is causing you feelings of angst? Or, do you instead prefer to turn to comfort food or sports or nature or reading a good book or watching a movie? How do you de-stress? Please share in the comment section below.

Like I stated before, writing poetry turned into a great way to de-stress. It felt amazing to be able to get to the bottom of what was bothering me simply by crafting my words and feelings of intuition of what might make the situation better. I don’t currently write much poetry anymore; however, it was a perfect outlet for me when I was in my teens and twenties.

Poem: After Being with You

Cry in the Wilderness Poetry & Prose Series written in 1977: This is some poetry I wrote about the one time I decided to date one of those guys you would label a "bad boy." It was also the only time in my life I dated more than one guy at the same time.
