t can easily be assumed everyone walking the planet enjoys ice cream/gelato whether it’s good for them or not, so I’ve compiled a list of the best ice cream/gelato brands that may be found at your local grocer.
Available at most grocery stores, especially specialty grocers because of its high quality position as a product in this category. This brand is disrupting the ice cream isle with its quality products. Talenti an Italian inspired product sells both Sorbetto (“ice fruit”) and Gelato (“frozen”). The Sorbetto is akin to the commonly known Sorbet while the Gelato is somewhat similar to ice cream with subtle differences in milk fat content.
Gelato technically and legally cannot be labeled as ice cream because the milk fat content does not meet the technical threshold of 10%. Instead, Gelato contains 5%-8% milk fat content. Talenti Gelato has many flavors most being gluten free all with 30% less fat than traditional ice cream.
Many of the popular flavors include, but are not limited to Banana Chocolate Swirl, Black Cherry, Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Belgian Milk Chocolate, Caramel Apple Pie, Caramel Cookie Crunch, Caribbean Coconut, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Cookie Dough (New), Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, Coffee Chocolate Chip, Coffee Toffee, Double Dark Chocolate, Fudge Brownie, German Chocolate Cake, Hazelnut Chocolate Chip, Mediterranean Mint, Oatmeal Raison Cookie, Old World Eggnog, Peppermint Bark, Pumpkin Pie, Raspberries & Cream, Raspberry Cheesecake, Salted Peanut Caramel, Sea Salt Caramel, Sicilian Pistachio, Simply Strawberry, Southern Butter Pecan, Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Tiramisu, and Toasted Almond. A hand selected list of these Talenti flavors presumably the flavors that tested well enough were released as chocolate frozen Gelato bars.
The Sorbetto have only a handful of flavors, while the Gelato has dozens available for purchase. I have had the opportunity to try all the Sorbetto flavors, but have not tried all Gelato selections. Good luck, try them all.
Any qualified ice cream taste tester whether professional or casual will attest that Haagen-Dazs makes incredible ice cream. Most ice cream fans will argue that good ice cream is not only a by product of good process, but a limited list of all natural quality ingredients. All ice cream and gelato on this list meet these criteria, but this limited list of ingredients was what originally made me such an advocate of Haagen-Dazs.
Haagen-Dazs also recently launched a Gelato line as a counter strike against Talenti encroachment on sales. Haagen-Dazs Gelato flavors are more limited, but none-the-less smartly placed on the market. A brand new chef inspired Artesian Haagen-Dazs line was also released to further diversify the offerings.
Haagen-Dazs Gelato, Artesian Collection, and Ice Cream flavors include :
Gelato Flavors: Black Cherry Amaretto, Cappuccino, Caramelized Banana Chip, Dark Chocolate Chip, Limón cello, Pomegranate Swirl, Sea Salt Caramel, and Stracciatella, Tiramisu. Gelato cups and bars are also available which are also very good. Flavors for the bars include Honey Milk Chocolate Graham, Strawberry Dark Chocolate, Tiramisu Chocolate, and Vanilla Carmel Pizzelle.
Artesian Collection: Chocolate Caramelized Oat, Spiced Pecan Turtle, Banana Rum Jam, Tres Leches Brigadeiro, Ginger Molasses Cookie, and Applewood Smoked Caramel Almond.
Classic and Limited Edition Ice Cream Flavors: Butter Pecan, Caramel Cone, Cherry Vanilla, Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Coffee, Cookies and Cream, Dulce de Leche, Green Tea, Java Chip, Mint Chip, Pineapple Coconut, Pistachio, Pralines & Cream, Rocky Road, Rum Raison, Strawberry, Vanilla, Vanilla Bean, Vanilla Chocolate Chip, Vanilla Swiss Almond, White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, with a limited edition Peanut Butter Pie flavor. A handful of these flavors can be obtained in smaller one serving container as well.
Enjoy them all!
High quality Haagen-Dazs can be found in grocery stores as well as at ice cream shops in favorable locations near you. Other flavors lines include sorbet and frozen yogurt selections.
While Ben and Jerry’s ice cream appears less elegant and sophisticated than the previous two brands on the list its position on this list is well deserved. This ice cream origins are born in state of Vermont by two ice cream enthusiasts, Ben & Jerry. The one thing that sets this brand apart from the other two mentioned is the wild and often funky combinations and themes these pint size dreams come in. If you have ever experienced Cold Stone Creamery you may be familiar with the style of preparation this ice cream has. The pints usually sell for 2/$5 on special are packed with a mixed supply of topping ingredients that adds diversification in every flavorful bite.
Ice Cream Flavors: Include 110 different individual flavors to choose, although the most be available only at the ice cream shops and not the grocer. The grocer will limit the freezer space to a few dozen at the most. One of the newer releases include “The Tonight Dough” with the tonight show host Jimmy Fallon holding a cone of the product on the packaging. This flavor has caramel and chocolate ice cream with chocolate chip cookie swirls and gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter dough. Ridiculous it may seem, but on the contrary this is Ben & Jerry’s signature style in every flavor they create. The website below will give you an idea of all the flavors available.
If you need a better detail of how funky these flavors gets I suggest you visit the website and check them out in detail. There is even a frozen yogurt variety under the Fro-Yo Ben & Jerry line. Better yet, check them out in person at your local grocer or at one of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops. Enjoy!
