henever there is a celebration, we call for Champagne. Everyone knows about Bloody Mary but very little is known, if at all, about Canada's most popular drink Bloody Caesar outside Canada.

Whenever there is a happy celebration of any kind, we often say "Bring out the champagne!" We don't say "Bring out the beer!" now, do we? Although some men might differ, of course. We don't say "Bring out the vodka!" either - unless one lives in Russia then one says "Ya lublu tebya" , or something like that. We also don't say "Bring out the margaritas!" either. Although my girl friends and I have said that more often than I would like to recall. My point is champagne seems to be synonymous to celebration. Think 'champagne' .. go on.. what is the first thing that comes to mind? Celebration! Yes, indeed. No other wine is so associated with joy and gaiety as is champagne. This drink has toasted millions of weddings, launched thousands of ships and attended gazillions of parties.

Bloody Mary

Best Review 2182

The Bloody Mary was created by Fernand "Pete" Petiot, a bartender at Harry's NY Bar in Paris. When the recipe for the Bloody Mary traveled to New York City with "Pete" Petoit after repeal of prohibition to work at the King Cole Bar in the St Regis Hotel, his new bar felt the name would be offensive. So the Bloody Mary became known as the the Red Snapper for many years, but eventually it was again known as the Bloody Mary.

Bloody Caesar

Best Review 2182

Bloody Caesar was invented by bartender Walter Chell to celebrate the opening of a new Italian restaurant in the Calgary Inn, which is now the Westin, in Calgary, Alberta in 1969. In its original form, it contained tomato juice and mashed clams. Nowadays, this concoction is known as Clamato (tomato juice and clam broth mixture) made by the Mott's company and is mainly available in Canada. As the Queen would likely say, "Only in Canada, eh? Pity." (This Canadian popular culture catchphrase originated from Red Rose's old commercials "Only in Canada, you say? Pity...")
